Google has posted recommendations on its blog for sites that publish news. Among other recommendations, it also provides information that can help publishers improve their search experience and engage users.
Google Best Practices for News Sites
- Structured data on AMP pages
By adding structured data to AMP pages, the content will be visible in the rich blocks of Google search results. The Rich Result Test tool allows you to test your AMP page markup.
Google also recommends not neglecting the publication date of the article, because this information may be important to users.
- Streaming video content markup
The “LIVE” icon in the search results will be available to those who, during the live broadcast, will not forget to use the BroadcastEvent markup.
To speed up the process of crawling and indexing a screaming video, you can use the Indexing API.
- Updating content in Google AMP Cache
If you want to keep the content on your site always up-to-date, we recommend that you submit a request to force content refresh in the Google AMP Cache.
You can also use the following news-related AMP components:
amp-live-list – allows you to quickly reload content;
amp-script – Used to run JavaScript inside AMP pages. Anything published on desktop and non-AMP mobile pages can be migrated to AMP using this tool.
