In this mini-case, I want to tell you about my experiment, as a result of which I managed to take 5 places in the TOP-10 in the search results using the low-frequency key and not spend a penny on it.
In 2019, I decided to conduct an experiment and try to take several places in the search engine results with one key. I wanted to get the most out of the possible and at the same time not spend a single ruble, do everything on my own.
As part of the experiment, I decided to promote the key “What to give an SEO specialist for his birthday?” Why I chose this particular phrase, I no longer remember. This is not important, since the process of promotion itself is of interest here. Let’s dwell on it.
What was done as part of the promotion
The first step in the promotion, I wrote an article that answers the main request, and published it on the Lovepack website. Here is this material: “What to give an SEO-specialist for his birthday.”
I didn’t really think about text optimization. The main goal was to answer the request and advertise the products that are mentioned in the article.
Two years have passed, so I have no screenshots by position, but I clearly remember that this article took the tenth place. Once upon a time I even posted links to this page, but now there are less than half of them.
After the publication of the main article and getting into the TOP-10, I began to think about where else to place posts in order to raise them in the SERP. I did not consider buying links on exchanges, since this requires a budget, and the essence of the experiment is not to spend a dime on promotion.
Then I started looking through Google for large sites where you can publish posts. Selected several:
- VC.ru – due to the authority of the domain, many bad materials on the site went to the TOPs.
- VK.COM – what the hell is not kidding.
- Pinterest.ru – with the help of Pinterest, you can do things that “Mama don’t cry.” If you’re interested, write in the comments, I’ll tell you more about it in other materials. For example, in this article I described a standard algorithm for promoting a website through Pinterest.
- Yandex.Zen – Yandex services have always had privileges in issuing, this was confirmed by bad materials in the TOP for competitive keys.
I also wanted to publish on Spark and Medium, but for some reason I didn’t get my hands on it. Perhaps, if I did, I would have taken 7 out of 10 positions at the finish line. But “Mahmo te, shho mahmo.”
I wrote articles for all sites myself. For the most part, I copied and pasted it for myself, and some for someone else. It didn’t smell of uniqueness and exclusivity. I didn’t think about the optimization of donor articles, I was more focused on the presence of a link to the main material.
At the finish line, as we can see, the main site Lovepack took the first position in Yandex. Donors were distributed among the rest of the TOP-10 issues.
On Google, the picture is even better – here I am the full-fledged leader.
If you look at the promoted page through the Serpstat.com service, then in Google the site holds key positions. Of course, traffic is far from HF or even MF. But for the main low-frequency keys, the material takes the lion’s share of the traffic.
Instead of a conclusion
I think if now the article is rewritten a little, expanding, adding various elements, then it will be possible to collect more traffic, it will be better to convert. And if you buy a few links using this key and download donors with links, then you can pick up the issue altogether. But that’s another story and other promotion methods.
